Spend one day to enjoy the water Town zhouzhuang.
9:00 a.m. Shanghai downtown hotel pickup and drive to Suzhou
Enjoy the drive out of the bustling city to 900 year-old Zhouzhuang Water Town, Jiangsu's best-known water town 60 km (37 mi) away, home to some of China's best-preserved water-village architecture from the Ming and Qing Dynasty.
10:30 a.m. Visit Shen's House, an impressively big residence complex with a panoply of courtyards, then move on to Zhang's House, a magnificent 70-room Ming residence decorated with hanging old lanterns and bordered by a waterside rockery. Finally, stop to see the Twin Bridges, considered by many the most beautiful of the town's 14 bridges and immortalized on canvas by artist Chen Yifei. (1.5 hours)
12:00 p.m. Lunch
Hop onto a man-propelled boat to navigate Zhouzhuang's willow-lined waterways and ancient stone arch bridges which offer a simple beauty virtually unchanged over hundreds of years. Then, stroll down the town's narrow ancient streets and observe the locals going about their daily lives selling traditional crafts, snacks and delicacies. (1.5 hours)
4:00 p.m. Return to hotel
Zhouzhuang is a popular touristic destination. It is one of the most famous water townships in China, noted for its profound cultural background, the well preserved ancient residential houses, the elegant watery views and the strong local colored traditions and customs. It has been called the "Venice of the East".
